The Incredible Shrinking President

When reading this, bear in mind that Doug Schoen conducted polling for Bill Clinton. This isn't just "wingnuts" talking:

It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced.

Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.

Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

A detailed examination of presidential popularity after 50 days on the job similarly demonstrates a substantial drop in presidential approval relative to other elected presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries. The reason for this decline most likely has to do with doubts about the administration's policies and their impact on peoples' lives.

As indicated by the last sentence, the Obama Administration's policies are proving to be as surprisingly a tough sell among the public as it its public face. I used to write that "Barack Obama is not the Messiah. He is just another politician." The polls seem to be bearing that out. How long before the media takes note of this lack of popularity and begins to speculate on how Barack Obama is a drag on the Democratic Party's chances and fortunes?

I think that the level of popularity is very important.  There are questions that should be asked like why is he so popular?  Is it his policies? Is it his personality?  Is it something more subtle like the ability to communicate? Is there something going on in society today that is causing worry (eg the economy) and he has the confidence of the masses to lead in a time or turmoil?

It leads on to more and more to consider......

This guy Obama is worse than his dumbo predecessor Bush, except for his eloquent speeches, but Ted Bundy (the serial killer) also had eloquent speeches.

Obama is just the next puppet in the long line of corporate puppets since Reagan. He is just smarter and blacker than the last puppet.

Eisenhower, a Republican tried to warn us about the military-industrial complex. Well now the big corporation-government cabal has completed the mission and taken over control of the media, the military and the government. The 99% MUST organize and rise up against the top 1%. We don't have much time to start this. Unite to Strike!

Many people now believe Obama would be remembered as someone who in the times of great challenge failed his country.
