Rumors Of The GOP's Death Are Exaggerated . . .

At least when it comes to Senate races. I am particularly excited about having Rob Portman run for the Senate seat in Ohio. Yes, I know that he will be attacked for the sin of having served his country during the course of the Bush Administration but Portman's a very smart guy who knows policy backwards and forwards, has a proven ability to get elected to office (he served six terms on the House of Representatives before joining the Administration as the Trade Representative and later, the Budget Director) and is excellent on the issues. Keeping George Voinovich's seat will be tough to do but if it can be done with Portman, I will be happy to say goodbye to Voinovich.

But irrespective on individual favorite candidates, the Republican Party is showing that it still has a lot of life left in it and that it can make waves in 2010. Doomsayers may want to be careful about their apocalyptic predictions concerning the future of the party.
