A Change In The WTO's Stance Concerning Bilateral Trade Deals

Posted by Pejman Yousefzadeh on Tue Dec 04, 2007 at 07:02:28 PM EST

Covered here. This is welcome news, of course, but I can't help but feel at least a little bit displeased that one of the reasons behind the WTO's previously longstanding opposition to bilateral trade deals was that the body was "afraid that it [would] be left without a role if there are no more multilateral trade rounds." Free trade is far too important to be held hostage to such parochial concerns.
