Sacrilege

It's Wrigley Field, people. Wrigley field. Let's not have yet another blow against tradition by changing the name of the most beloved ballpark in Major League Baseball, eh?

And once the name game starts, it goes round and round.

Here in St. Louis, the 12-year-old football dome has been called 4 or 5 things (Trans World Dome, Dome at America's Center, Edward Jones Dome, and, for one night only, Russell Athletic Field).

The hockey arena, 13 years old, has had 3 names (Kiel Center, Savvis Center, and now Scottrade Center).

Kind of hard to build up a tradition/affection for a place when its name keeps changing, but one could say the same about sports teams, too.  They make decisions that don't intentionally, but do whittle away at the long-term affection and fan base.
