One of my chief pet peeves with the Bush Administration--and this has stretched back to the first term--has been its inconstant support for the principle of free trade. At times, the Administration is on the side of the angels--witness its support of CAFTA. At other times . . . we get steel, lumber and shrimp tariffs.
I have hoped and dreamed that at some point before January 20, 2009, the Administration would finally acknowledge and embrace its inner free trader.
Maybe it has.
