Think That The Trade Deficit Metric Is In Any Way Meaningful?

Then read this post and gnash your teeth in frustration over how much time is wasted obsessing about this issue. I have said it before and will say it again: the trade deficit is an artificial metric whose sole purpose is to encourage protectionism. It is high time we stopped paying attention to it.
