A Belated Welcome . . . And CommentaryPosted by Pejman Yousefzadeh on Wed Sep 28, 2005 at 10:47:54 PM EST Had I known that Dafydd was arriving today, I would have baked a cake. Be sure to make him feel at home. And be sure as well to visit him at his home. To address the subject of his post: Obviously, the charges against Tom DeLay are serious and should a jury of his peers find him guilty--and should I independently be convinced of that guilt--then I will hold no brief for him and will shed no tears at having him shoved aside. Justice be done though the Heavens may fall. Or if you prefer the colloqualism, let the chips fall where they may. At the same time, it should hardly be ignored that DA Ronnie Earle hardly lacks an ideological axe to grind--and has ground it with disastrous results in the past against Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. And yes, Mr. Earle has prosecuted Democrats before, but as this post points out, that was when Democrats were clearly in the ascendant in Texas (yes, there once was such a time). To say that Mr. Earle does not come to these matters with clean hands is to say too much. But he is hardly the disinterested party. Still, I have--and always have had--a great deal of respect for prosecutors. By and large, they are a devoted group of public servants who care deeply about doing the right thing. We shall see whether one of them did do the right thing here. UPDATE: More from Ed Morrissey.
