This article brings us quite welcome news. While there remains much to be done to ensure that the Iraqi security forces are up to snuff, it is good to see that they are now showing bravery in wanting to show off their skills and stand up to the insurgency. Now that bravery has to be consistent and has to be matched as well with unit cohesion and discipline.
It is instructive, however, that the article ends with Iraqis stressing that American forces cannot leave until the job is done. To fool ourselves into thinking that some kind of phased withdrawal may soon be in the offing is to snatch complete defeat from the jaws of progress.
UPDATE: On that last point,
this editorial is apt.
