The Hitchens-Galloway Confrontation . . .

Ended up being a one-sided slaughter conducted by Hitchens. As expected, of course, but some will try desperately to argue otherwise. Money quote by the good Mr. Belton:

. . . Contests generally make more edifying viewing if the two sides are playing at the same sport. Still, as interesting as was the juxtaposition of Galloway's broguish union-hall rhetoric with Hitchens's drawled sophistication, Hitchens's ability to deflate Galloway's points, and his greater variety and command of argument, made it rather more one-sided a contest to my mind than I would have hoped it to have been.

I'm just glad that Galloway was treated with the negative respect he deserved after making comments that were both inaccurate and insensitive about the September 11th attacks--in New York of all places.

I agree.  I was trying to be non-partisan on my blog, but Galloway was completely outclassed.  I was also stunned at the amount of applause Hitchens got, considering the location and sponsorship of the event.  It wasn't the highest-class debate--too much adhominem on both sides (CH's ad hominems were much more clever), but the moderator was much more fair than I expected.  All-in-all, a great contest.
