Serious Discontent Over Harriet Miers

We are going to be seeing a lot of stories like this one--detailing conservative unhappiness with the Miers nomination--in the coming weeks. And it should come as no surprise to the White House that we are seeing such stories, though apparently the White House still has not grasped the depth of conservative anger regarding this nomination. Saying that critics of Miers are "elitists" and "sexists" certainly does not help matters and excusing such commentary with a "I'm not accusing anyone in this room" comment will hardly pacify intelligent critics who are naturally outraged at being condescended to.

Never before have I seen the Bush White House so politically tone-deaf. It is almost as if they decided to run a nomination process that looks to be just as bad as the Roberts nomination was good.

Rove, where is thy deft touch?
