Now Against The Miers Nomination: Republican Staffers

This is quite significant. I invite co-blogger Britt to comment on this because he was a Senate staffer, but the protestations of the Senators notwithstanding, they are oftentimes heavily influenced by the opinions of staffers who control the information flow to them and whose words resonate especially heavily with those who make their decisions based on the opinions of the last people they see.

The staffers are likely working together to coordinate a sinking of the nomination. If so, this is very bad news for the White House and its political operation should now go into overdrive to stop the bleeding.

Or it should simply withdraw the nomination--with Miers taking the lead in that regard. That approach could work as well and more than a few people who are supporters of the Administration would want it to be tried.
